Over the weekend Manukau Leisure picked up the Innovation Award at the New Zealand Fitness Industry Awards for the Krank initiative. Krank is an innovative and accessible workout and the trial studio at Lloyd Elsmore Park Leisure Centre, which was set up in February 2011, was the first of its kind in New Zealand. Krank is a unique cardio and toning workout that allows participants to work out from standing, seated, squat and lunge positions. This presents an amazing opportunity for those who are physically challenged. It removes barriers for those in wheelchairs, with lower body injuries, suffering obesity, deconditioned, pregnant, or who are less able bodied. |

It creates an environment where participants really can go at their own pace and yet delivers a truly challenging workout. We’ve had athletes and disabled customers sit side by side in Krank classes both enjoying an optimal workout experience at the same time. Class formats include Krank (1 hr class), Krank Fusion (Krank and cycling combined) and Krank Express (40 min class). In the five months following launch Krank sessions have attracted over 2,000 attendees. The delivery of this new fitness concept is currently being trialled and tweaked and will be relocated to Allan Brewster Recreation Centre (Papatoetoe) in the New Year. |
