General
Can I smoke in a Manukau Leisure facility?
No. In accordance with New Zealand law, smoking is prohibited in all Manukau Leisure facilities.
What are your opening and closing hours?
Each centre is different so please visit our locations page and choose which facility you’re interested in.
Do you do birthday parties?
Yes, you can hire our space to hold your own birthday party. Or you can talk to our friendly staff if you’d like our help arranging something special. Howick Recreation Centre, Lloyd Elsmore Park Leisure Centre, Manurewa Aquatic Centre and Outdoor Experience offer birthday party packages.
Do Manukau Leisure’s facilities cater for people with disabilities?
Yes! We welcome everyone regardless of ability or disability – in fact two of our centres, Manurewa Aquatic Centre and Howick Recreation Centre, have even achieved the Halberg SportsAccess Gold Award. Programmes can be developed to meet specific recreation needs. Please talk to our friendly staff to find a solution that works for your unique needs.
Fitness
How much does a fitness membership cost?
It depends on the type of membership, duration, and which gym you decide to join. We aim to keep memberships as affordable as possible – they start at $14.90 per week. For detailed prices go to our fitness centre locations page and choose the gym nearest you.
How do I pay and how long do I have to sign up for?
If you choose to pay via direct debit, you can pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and there is a four month minimum term. Or you can choose to pay for your annual membership in full. Paid in full options for one and three month terms are subject to availability.
How do sign up for a fitness membership?
You can visit your local gym and our friendly staff will walk you through the process. Or, if you want to pay by direct debit, you can choose your favourite gym and quickly and easily join online now.
Does fitness membership include the use of spa and sauna?
Yes! If you join one of our Community Gyms that is housed within an aquatic facility then you may use the spa and sauna free. Also included in your membership is five free one-on-one sessions with a qualified fitness professional, free access to selected group fitness classes, and free programme updates every six to eight weeks.
I have a multi-site gym membership so does that mean I can go to any Auckland Council gym?
No. Multi-site gym memberships currently only apply to the applicable legacy council centres. For example, Manukau Leisure multi-site gym memberships only apply to Manukau Leisure gyms.
Where can I go for group fitness classes?
Group fitness classes are offered at Manurewa Recreation Centre, Howick Recreation Centre, Allan Brewster Recreation Centre in Papatoetoe, Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Leisure Centre in Mangere, Lloyd Elsmore Park Leisure Centre in Pakuranga and Marina Fitness in Half Moon Bay. Furthermore, all of our pools offer aqua group fitness (ie. Aquarobics). For more information about the classes and when they’re on go to our group fitness page.
How much do group fitness classes cost?
Many of our group fitness classes are included free with your gym membership (ie. Fight Do, Oxygeno, Zumba, Power). The ones that aren’t are those that require equipment (ie. Top Ride, Ki Max). Do you have personal trainers? How do book one?
Personal trainers are available in the Community Gyms at Manurewa Aquatic Centre and Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Leisure Centre, as well as Marina Fitness. For personal trainer’s contact details go to your local gym’s page or ask one of our friendly staff.
Aquatics
Are swimming lessons available at Manukau Leisure pools?
Yes! Learn-to-swim programmes are available for all ages and abilities. Swimsation is the resident swim school at Manurewa Aquatic Centre, Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Leisure Centre, Otara Leisure Centre and Papatoetoe Centennial Pools. And Swim Gym is the swim school at Lloyd Elsmore Park Leisure Centre. Manukau Leisure pools are home to the popular Community Swim programme that provides free swim lessons to Manukau school kids.
Where’s my closest Manukau Leisure swimming pool?
Manukau Leisure operates six swimming pools throughout Manukau. Our five indoor aquatic centres, located in Mangere, Otara, Pakuranga, Papatoetoe and Manurewa, are open year round, seven days a week. The outdoor pools in Mangere, Papatoetoe and Totara Park open during the summer months. Visit the swimming pool locations page for details.
Do you have spa pools, saunas and steam rooms?
Each indoor aquatic centre is outfitted with a public spa pool and sauna. Lloyd Elmsore Park Leisure Centre also features an additional steam room.
When are the aquarobics and aquajogging classes and how much?
A variation of aqua fitness classes, such as aquarobics, aquacise and aquajogging, are offered at each Manukau Leisure swimming pool. Download your local pool’s brochure, which includes their timetable and prices, from the aquatic programmes page.
Can schools from outside of Manukau access Manukau's free pools now that we're all part of the Super City?
No. Until the new Auckland Council policy is decided pools across the region are still governed by their legacy council's pricing policies. That means that free pools, and the Community Swim programme, will continue to be available to schools free of charge in what was previously the Manukau area. If you're a school from outside of Manukau you will be charged a fee.
Recreation
Do you offer holiday programmes?
Yes! Manukau Leisure’s school holiday programmes are affordable, varied and heaps of fun. Holiday programmes, including outdoor pursuits, day trips, sports and arts’n’craft, are run from Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Leisure Centre (Mangere), Pakuranga Recreation & Youth Centre, Te Matariki Clendon Community Centre, Manurewa Recreation Centre, Otara Leisure Centre, Howick Recreation Centre and Allan Brewster Recreation Centre (Papatoetoe).
What recreation programmes does Manukau Leisure offer?
Each Manukau Leisure recreation centre offers a unique set of exciting recreation programmes. Usually these programmes run inline with the school term and include sports skill classes, aerobics and social sport leagues. We have something for everyone regardless of age, shape, fitness level or ethnicity. Programmes cater for babies through to the elderly. I want to enrol my child for Out of School Care/holiday programme. Will I qualify for a subsidy?
That depends on your unique situation. We are CYFs approved and OSCAR registered so a WINZ subsidy may apply.
Childcare
How much will it cost to enrol my child in Kauri Kids?
What you’ll pay depends on how many hours you require, the age of your child, which Kauri Kids location you choose, and level of subsidy you qualify for. Prices start from $4.75 per hour and we support the government funded 20-free hours scheme. How do I enrol my child with Kauri Kids?
We understand that you will want to visit the centre before deciding to enrol your child. We welcome you to spend as long as you like; bring your child, talk to the team leader and teachers, and ask any questions. Venue Hire
How do I book a room/stadium/pool?
First, take a look around our venue hire section and decide which facility and space is appropriate for your event. Then it’s as simple as getting in touch with the relevant centre, seeing if it’s available, and we’ll lead you through the booking process.
How much does it cost to hire a venue?
Venue hire rates depend on the facility and space you require, any additional requirements (ie. staff, tables and chairs), duration, and the purpose of hire. Rates can range from $10 - $115 per hour and include set up and pack down time. A refundable bond is required for each booking. Who is responsible for setting up for an event?
The person hiring the venue is responsible for setting up for their activity and packing down and cleaning up within the hours they’ve booked.
Are you allowed to hold a function with alcohol at your venue?
Yes, we do accept events that include alcohol but you will be required to obtain a liquor license from Auckland Council.
